Next time you’re shopping look out for the acronym PDO, PGI or TSG which will prove your product is the real thing.

PDO = Protected Designation of Origin. Covers foodstuffs produced, processed and prepared in a particular region
PGI = Protected Geographical Indication. Covers foodstuffs that are linked to a particular region – and production, processing or preparation has to take place there
TSG = Traditional Specialty Guarantee. Does not refer to origin, but highlights traditional character
AOC = Appellation d’Origine contrôlée – controlled designation of origin within France
