Civil litigation

Disputes involving public bodies and or private individuals, which don’t involve criminal law, are settled through the process known as civil litigation. One party will usually be seeking damages, or specific performance, from the other.

The most common type of civil litigation is personal injury. The process will usually start with a complaint being filed at court, but the process will not necessarily end in court - most cases are settled outside of court to save both time and money. Examples of civil litigation cases include:

  • Personal injury litigation
  • Intellectual property litigation
  • Defamation actions
  • Discrimination litigation
  • Debt settlement
