Nationality and migration

By Adam Fletcher

One of the most common enquiries we get from clients at Caven is from people wishing to change their visa or citizenship status. As dealing with the Home Office can be an arduous and frustrating process, at times, many people decide to use the services of an expert immigration solicitor who can ensure that the process goes as smoothly as possible. So, if you are in the process of submitting an application to the Home Office, or are considering one, it is advisable to speak to a solicitor.

If you have already been in the UK for a certain length of time on an eligible visa, you may be able to apply for British citizenship. Depending on your visa status you may also be able to apply for leave to remain or indefinite leave to remain. While these are visas they are the first step in the process of becoming a British citizen.

If you are considering migrating to the UK there are a number of things which need to be considered in order for you to choose the right. For instance, you may be eligible for a family, spousal or dependent visa, or, if you work in a profession in which there is a shortage in the UK you may be eligible for the highly skilled migrant programme.

If you are currently studying in the UK there is also the option of a post-study-work visa.

As you can see there are quite a few different options available to people who have either entered the UK and want to change their visa status or those who are considering migrating. Within each option itself there are a number of pitfalls which can ruin inexperienced people’s applications so it is a very good idea to speak to a specialist immigration solicitor who will advise and assist with your application.

If you require an immigration solicitor please call Caven and we’ll talk to you about your situation and recommend one of our experts who will be able to help.

Adam Fletcher is one of Caven’s most knowledgeable case handlers with extensive experience in this matter from dealing with clients on a day-to-day basis.
