International taxation

By Juan Palomino

To hear about globalization and free trade is very common nowadays, those words relate to exchanges and responsibilities for you as member of the society. Perhaps taxation is a fact that people may take lightly. However, this could be a serious mistake as taxation is controlled by governments, and particularly in the UK and the European Union.

Taxation affects everyone; it does not matter whether you are an international student in London or a businessman trading goods from Madrid to Manchester or Paris. Lately, many clients who call in are looking for a solicitor to solve different matters regarding tax. Indeed, the best way to ensure that you pay the right amount of tax is to use a solicitor with relevant experience in the field.

Individual taxation

As mentioned, taxation affects everyone. If you are living and working in the UK, you need to make sure that you are paying any required contributions. As a worker it is necessary for you to pay taxes and contributions to the national insurance. This will apply to you even if you are an international student with a part time job.

If you are leaving the UK after having worked for a few years, then you may be in position to claim back some of those taxes. Ensure to get legal advice from a solicitor in order to find out your current state.

However, if you are returning to the UK after having worked abroad then you will need to inform to the HM Revenue & Customs to clarify your legal status. Getting legal advice from a solicitor is much cheaper than facing any penalty; always keep this in mind.

Business taxation

Taxation in the UK and Europe can seem intimidating but a solicitor will be able to make your life so much easier. Remember that investing in the UK and EU for setting up businesses or companies have many advantages, which you may be able to benefit from and find new opportunities for your business and excel in the tough and fruitful market. Generally, I remind my clients that Caven has a network of solicitors in The UK and Europe and, most importantly, getting in touch with solicitors abroad is still free and not further away than a phone call or a click on our web page.
Are you setting up business, are you working in the UK and you do not know your obligations or benefits as a tax payer? Please get in touch with us and find the ideal solicitor.
