Accidents at home

This is probably a bigger concern, or a more common occurrence, than most people realise.

Hospital attendance figures show huge numbers of injuries occurring in the home. For example, according to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, in 2002 alone 540,134 accidents at home in the UK occurred outdoors, whilst 2,122,980 occurred indoors.

(Unfortunately the former Department for Trade and Industry stopped collecting data after 2002, so we don't have any more recent statistics.)

Accidents might occur with cooking equipment in the kitchen, on slippery or broken surfaces in the bathroom, or by substandard building works breaking. The difficult aspect about accidents at home is knowing whether or not you can retrieve compensation for your injuries from someone else for it, or whether you must bear the cost yourself.

We’ve set out some factors to consider about personal injury claims stemming from accidents at home.
